Step by Step

This photo was taken exactly one year ago during a walk up a mountain and it perfectly describes the start of this year, a beautiful walk uphill with the sight of what's below you but unclear path ahead.

Restart in Thin Air

Sunrise, East Borneo

Today, just two days before stepping into a new year I came to think about a trip to Mount Kinabalu. Somehow I connect this place with this time of the year. The dormant feeling and the cold air, like waiting for a new beginning.

Sugar cane juice in plastic bag

Sugar cane juice, random hawker centre

Retrospection. I remember it took me a while to find this rare way of having an ice cold sugar cane juice in Singapore. This carry-and-go drink prepared in a few minutes, the time it takes to squeeze out the liquid from sugar cane, is definitely an experience that in many ways exceeds that of having a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel. Maybe it's the quirkiness of drinking from a bag rather from a glass with the "Singapore Sling" print that could be bought for 22 SGD that makes it more real.

On the canvas

This sight in Bergamo gave me the impression of a painting rather than a wall.

Yohji Making Waves

Housed in the boiler room of the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station this installation is one in a series of three projects celebrating the Japanese Designer Yohji Yamamoto in London. By stepping into the room I entered a confined space isolated from external noise. In sight were three things: the wedding dress in bamboo crinoline from Yamamoto's A/W 1998 collection, its reflection in the water and a rowing boat which could take you closer to the piece. Together with the faint sound of slow instrumental music and the seemingly bottomless water it created a timeless atmosphere, reflecting the thought of what matters is now.
